On the Road Again

Ahhhh life on the open road.

I didn't think I would have another opportunity so soon, but luck prevailed and I'm leading my first tour for Adventure Cycling.

More than six hundred miles down the spectacular Oregon coastline to the great redwood forests of Northern California, we’ll enjoy magnificent ocean views, explore long stretches of sandy beaches, investigate tidal pools, zip past rustic farmsteads, and cruise in the cool, quiet shadows of the world’s tallest trees.

I'm imagining misty mornings, warm, sunny afternoons, and beachside bonfires. Hey it's a tough job but someone has to do it.

A little more about the tour.

Now that you know the details lets get started.

The first night on the coast (Florence, OR) was spent with two great friends from college. Hard to believe we've known each other for more than 20 years.

Also didn't hurt that they picked me up at the Eugene airport and were willing to cart me around for two days.

Bike bottle for scale:)

Ahhhhhhhh!

Old growth, well what's left of it....ugh.

The Oregon coast between Port Orford and Brookings. Fabulous riding.

Remnant of an old ship at the town of Gold Beach.

Getting close to Cali.

Great scenery along the coast.

Fabulous meal made by some of the Adventure Cycling Participants. Pasta with clams and red sauce, corn on the cob, water melon, feta, and mint salad.....awesome.

Bike unloading 101. 15 can go on the roof of this bad boy.

Banana slug in the coffee bin when we woke up.

Knotches chopped in one of the Redwoods to cut it down. The loggers would put a board in these to stand on in order to chop through the tree.

If there is any doubt how big these trees are check out the VW bus in the background. It looks like a toy.

Beautiful California coast line.

Western scrub jay plucking an almond from my fingers.

The San Francisco bridge and the end of the tour are in site.

The Pacific Coast Central group at the end of the ride. Enjoying some snacks and a final round of beers.
